does anyone have anything new to say? how 'bout those rams? or....better yet...what do you guys think of the mulder deal? calero+haren+prospect=mulder?
For now it is a good deal, but we will just have to wait and see if Haren and the prospect turn out to be anything. I have read about this catcher ("prospect") and he is supposed to be one of the better up and comming players. So the moral of the story is we got a good deal for now, and we will have to wait and see what these other guys turn out to be. Also I think Mulder only has 1-2 years left on his current contract, so if we cannot sign him after that, then it could also prove to suck.

I always thought that David Duchovny + X-files = Mulder.

yeah, kurt...you may be right. mulder has 2 years on his contract..so there's that. i think we're also slightly worried about his health, and of course his slide at the end of last season.
now, that being said, the catching prospect was probably expendable ASSUMING yadier molina winds up healthy and productive. furthermore, haren is haren, and while he hasnt put up great numbers yet, he is young and larussa liked him...a lot. and besides that, he was about the only cardinal that pitched well in the world series, except marquis. i think.
kiko calero is a pen pitcher, which makes his expendability a point of personal taste. he was good, however. kurt, you're exactly right. those three guys could've been quality for us, but you never know how these things work out.
some baseball analysts (and i know ebel will argue with me here) say beane traded off hudson and mulder for less than he shoulda got. the thing is this...apparently the As are going to be sold soon and dealing they're two pitching studs is somehow working into the sale of the team being more favorable. i dont really understand what they were trying to say, but i bet ebel does and he'll light me up for this entire blog.

I don't get this thread at all. I don't remember an X-Files episode about baseball.

Yahoo Sports is hiring, or so I'm told. If any of you hate your current job...

where's ebel? i want someone who actually has half a clue about baseball theory to weigh in on this. you guys have no idea about anything. you're like girls trying to talk about tools.

I'm more so gonna make fun of Woody for acting all high and mighty about baseball, when he lost to me (by several places) in fantasy baseball last season.
BOOYAH!

jimmy, i have a rebuttal to that last comment, however it requires mention of prescription lubes and peoples mom/wife/sister figures, so i think if i say it i'll get censored...again. and probably kicked off jimdrewes.com. i feel as though your draconian operation of this website is hindering my free speech. and that makes me not happy. by the by, how is your cousin doing?

I have nothing constructive to contribute to this conversation.
Just like the rest of you.

1. Daric Barton is one of the top prospects in all of baseball. If Daric gets hurt and/or never makes it, we got a steal. If we win a World Series with Mulder it was worth it no matter what Daric does. If we don't win the World Series and he becomes Mike Piazza...
2. Mulder's deal is through 2005 with 7-8M club option for 2006. So count on two years, at half price (top pitchers right now are mid teens...Clemens just got 18).
3. Athletics are not on the market, and a sale is definitely not the reason Beane made the trades. The deals were made because Beane thought the Big Three were declining, and he's a Sell High fan, and he's retooling for a couple years down the road. And the demise of Oakland is very overblown. They'll probably finish in at least the mid to high 80s win total in 05, and be in the pennant race - during a rebuilding year. 2-3 years and they're a pennant-winning team again.
4. Daric Barton at this point projects to be a far more valuable player than Yadier Molina. However, he's not a natural catcher and it's likely he'll end up in the Big Leagues as a first baseman or outfielder (or else a bad catcher). Think Mike Piazza, if he stays healthy and continues to follow the projections...
