I disagree with Awwwwww-Timmuh. I think the new U2 CD sucks. I wan't too fond of their last one either, but I liked it more than this one.

I prefer listening to Melinda sing Paula Abdul songs over some of the songs on that CD.

Vertigo isn't bad, but its all over the place, and I'm starting to get a little tired of it already.

I can safely make this post because Timmuh is a good 2,000 miles away.

Avatar well, just out of curiosity, which songs? (as per your second statement)...cause i honestly like'em all.

Avatar i like pretty much all of em too.

but this is an extremely subjective post jim. it's really just a matter of personal opinion.

Avatar plus lets all agree that jim has a messed up taste in music. I like the whole CD too, I actually think that vertigo is one of songs that I like the least.

Avatar Just because I don't like Rush doesn't mean I have a messed up taste in music. I'd argue that I have a more diverse taste in music though.

Avatar Oh, and before you throw a hissy over my last statment, let me clarify a little...

The operative word there was diverse. The other point to notice is that I said diverse taste and NOT diverse ownership. The difference being, if you try to pull some CD collection comparison card, thats diversity in ownership not taste.

I will give you that your taste in music has a greater breadth within the styles and types of music that you listen to. For example, I listen to a band here and there of varying popularity in various genres, but that may be more peripheral than the mainstream - thus being diverse. Your taste (to me anyway) is that you'll enjoy the music of more artists within the genres, but that the diversity between those groups are smaller - thus having greater breadth but less diversity.

Take metal music for example. Its not a genre that either one of us would define our listening preference as, but yet we both have at least some taste for it. By having breadth in taste, you'd listen to several bands close to the mainstream, like Metallica, Korn, and Deftones. Having a more diverse taste, I may like some of the CDs of a couple of those bands, but I would also listen to some of the more out-there bands like Stu listens to (probably because I was exposed to it for 4 years.)

However, this is all just guessing. We only have what we've witnessed the other listening to to make this call. I can't really get inside your head to know how diverse or narrow your taste in music really is.

Avatar And to answer the earlier question...

I guess I don't think that "All Because of You" is that bad, but I don't like "Sometimes you can't make it on your own" - I think its uninspired. And every once in a while, a U2 song just flat out annoys me, like "a Man and a Woman." Everything else just basically bored me. Nothing caught me and stuck in my head.

Oh, and "One Step Closer" is a stink-bomb as well.

Avatar Damn Jimmy just take a joke, you took that as if I was making fun of the most important person in your life... aka SKIP

Avatar The new Mars Volta cd is incredible. As are the debuts from The Arcade Fire and John Legend.
Interpol's newest is rad too and will be putting on a kick butt show in two weeks here.

Avatar we all know jimmy has only one important person in his life. and of course its skip&kurtman. yeah, i know...there's two names there, but its really only one person.

Avatar Hmmm...okay jimbo, i can see not liking "one step closer" and "a man and a woman", but "sometimes you can't make it on your own"? That's easily one of my favorite songs on the CD. I didn't find it uninspired in the slightest, just the opposite in fact. I admit the backing vocals could be raised up a bit, but i think the song soars on a rhythmic level like no other song on the CD, except perhaps "Miracle Drug".

But like Ebel said, all this is personal opinion...i'm not out to change your, or anyone else's opinion of it.

and speaking of taste in music, if a band that i tend to like has an album i just don't like that much, i find that when i go back to it later in life i usually have greater appreciation for it. EX: Zooropa, Pop.

Avatar Yeah, the first Fugazi CD I bought, I stopped listening to after about 2 times through. Then I listened again about a year later and wound up buying a couple more CDs.

Avatar Funny sports/U2 article from the incomparable "the sports guy"

The Sports Guy is a very creative dude who used to write jokes for Jimmy Kimmel. He's a big sports nut, and ESPN hired him away a couple years ago.
