Ebel,

You will be interested to know that you now need to go by ANOTHER big-screen HDTV. The new PS3 will have not one, but TWO 1080p HD outs so you can hook up two HDTVs side-by-side for enhanced gameplay.

Start saving your money.

Avatar I'd heard about that. Crazy stuff.

The craziness of dual-screen console gaming aside, 1080p TVs aren't even really here yet. Well, not really anyways -- there are a couple on the market (the only RP I can think of off the top of my head are the sony sxrd and mitsubishi alpha), but they're all really new and obscenely expensive (10k+) and there's the first-generation problems and whatnot. Just too much bandwidth and too new of a tech.

TI's introducing a 1080p DLP chip later this year, which means DLP TVs with it are probably only a year or two away. So it makes sense that the PS3, coming out in 06, would support 1080p since it'll at least exist in some form, albeit with very miniscule market penetration. But 1080p won't be truly mainstream for a long time. Maybe PS5.

Avatar SO I also read all about the PS3 today, and there was just one thing that I thought was wierd. It will support up to 7 controllers... Why 7? I would think it would be 8 so there could be two 4 on 4 teams going at it. 7 just seems wierd and arbitrary to me.

Avatar gigabit, wifi, wireless controllers, blu-ray, usb 2.0, cell processors...

Life just ain't far. You guys remember when we were kids? My parents would give me a plastic gi joe dude who couldn't move, and some dinky mattel cars. "Here you go John, go play and have fun..."

Avatar Not quite sure yet about the 7 controller deal. Maybe it has something to do with the maximum number of frequencies the bluetooth can take up without stepping on the toes of the other broadcasts.
