Goodbye SBC, hello Charter.

So, we just got our Charter cable modem installed today. So far, Charter rocks. I called them yesterday, didn't have to wait on hold, and they had someone out to install it by noon today. I was connected and back up on the Internet by the time the guy left my house. By comparison, SBC always puts me on hold, it takes days to get someone to install it, and days after that to requisition the line.

So, I called SBC to cancel the DSL. They asked if I was keeping the phone service, I said yes, but just until we have Vonage installed. Then, they have their phone operators trained to spew out this scare tactic line, "so does Vonage finally have 911 service now?" Well, the answer to the question is - sorta. You gotta tell Vonage where you are physically located, but after that, yes they do have 911 service although it is slightly different. I just don't appreciate SBC trying to scare me out of cancelling their service.

Then, the guy tells me my turn-off date is 4 days from now. I don't care, but they are going to charge us for those 4 days. What a shady service. What is to prevent them from saying it takes 5 or 6 days, or even longer just to get a few extra bucks out of me?

I am so glad I'm getting away from SBC. I just wish we had done it sooner.

Avatar Can I please be the first to say..."I TOLD YOU SO" I told you when you moved into your new house that you should get cabel internet and not DSL, but anyways, at least you have finally seen the light.

I agree with the fact that SBC has some shady people working for them, but honestly, do you really expect them to say "Oh great vonage is a better deal and better service, we are glad you are switching to them"
